Google Panda 4.1

So we all know that Google – the almighty controller of the Internet, rears its own animals and then leashes them out to the world to seek and destroy targets that do not play to Google rules. Ok , so that is a little bit descriptive and something from a creative writing course. However, the reality is that google is releasing a major update and its the friendly or not so friendly Penguin. This one has been termed penguin 4.1, though we are never entirely sure on what title it will be and who actually knows when the damage will be felt.

The rollout began likely on Wednesday or Tuesday of last week. On Wednesday, I actually was thinking something was going on and asked some other pro's I know who track this closely, but no one could tell me much about it as everyone was on tender hooks and waiting to see if there was indeed any devastation on the way.

Anyway, Panda began rolling out and I suspect by now, it is fully rolled out. This is code named Panda 4.1, the previous official major Panda release was Panda 4.0 on May 20, 2014. Since then, Panda has continued to refresh fairly often on a monthly cycle and will continue to do that even with Panda 4.1.

This update, Panda 4.1, impacts 3-5% of search queries, so it is a pretty major one. But Pierre Far from Google said this is friendly to smaller sites, “greater diversity of high-quality small- and medium-sized sites ranking higher,” he said. Is that true? Well, time will tell but many are not too confident.

Pierre also said the reason they are announcing it is because it is not a simple refresh but they added more signals to the algorithm. Pierre explained Google added a “few more signals to help Panda identify low-quality content more precisely.”

Most of the sites that we run on here have survived, but event that survival does not mean that we were impervious to the Penguid update – No! what it means is that we were not hit badly and though we may have temporarily lost rankings or traffic, we know we can get that back no problem. As with anything in seo, this will take time and some effort and obviously for clients its all paret of that investment – stocks go up and stocks go down, but thats why we have experts on it.
